Using Emotions as a GPS
We talk a lot about emotions as something we must learn to manage, to tame.
And what if emotions could guide us towards the change we desire?
To increase your chances of reaching the goal you set for yourself, try to activate deep emotions within you.
Indeed, the word "emotion" means "to move" in Latin.
To take action, you need to touch emotions.
Emotions as a Driver
Often, we go from mental to action directly:
Mental: I want to lose weight
Action: I go on a diet
This is the shortest path.
But, there is another path, with an additional step between the mental and the action: that of emotion.
Activating your emotion along the way is the best way to take action and create lasting change.
Example
Nina gained 25 kilos after her 2 pregnancies. She has tried several diets and has been a customer of several apps for 3 years. She managed to lose 9 kilos once through restriction and violence towards herself. But, she regained it all. She is desperate. She is obsessed with her weight.
Every month, she launches a new action plan to absolutely lose weight.
For the past month, it seems to be working and she feels calm about her weight loss. What has changed?
She has tried to reconnect with her emotions and why she wanted to lose weight.
Recently, she has struggled to keep up with her daughter who is starting to ride a bike. She tires quickly and avoids any physical activity with her.
